Bangladesh’s RMG sector ranks highest globally in social audits
BTJ Desk Report
A report by the International Trade Center (ITC) reveals that Bangladesh’s readymade garment (RMG) industry has the highest average number of social audits, which assess labor and human rights risks, among surveyed countries.
While other nations like China, Vietnam, Turkey, and India have seen a decline in social audits, Bangladesh’s average remained steady at 3.6 audits per facility between 2021 and 2023. The report warns that excessive auditing can lead to “audit fatigue,” causing inefficiencies and potential fraudulent practices, thereby undermining the goals of transparency and compliance in supply chains.
