The Indian Cotton Federation (ICF) has reappointed J Thulasidharan as its President for the 2023-24 term. This decision was made during the 44th Annual General Meeting. J Thulasidharan currently serves as the Managing Director of The Rajaratna Mills Ltd.
The meeting also involved the election of other prominent office bearers. P Nataraj, the Managing Director of K.P.R. Mill Limited, and Aditya Krishna Pathy, Deputy Managing Director of The Lakshmi Mills Co Ltd, were elected as Vice Presidents. Nishanth Asher of Ravji Shamji Asher assumed the role of Secretary, while Chetankumar Joshi of Shree Enterprises was appointed as the Joint Secretary.
During the AGM, President Thulasidharan discussed the global economy, stating, “Global economic growth has faced a setback, declining from 2.7 % in 2022 to 3 % in 2023-2024. According to recent surveys, headline inflation is expected to decrease from 8.7 percent to 6.7 percent in 2023 and further to 5.2 % in 2024. The financial turbulence, along with a recessionary trend, has impacted many countries in Europe, the USA, and Asian nations, among others, as a post-COVID aftereffect. India, in particular, has effectively managed these global challenges. Market observers remain optimistic, anticipating a potential revival in early 2024. The Russia-Ukraine war has contributed to a surge in commodity prices.
