Recycled Plastic goods can be exported to the UK

A seminar hosted by the Bangladesh Plastic Goods Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BPGMEA) and the British Standards Institution (BSI) focused on promoting sustainable production and consumption of plastic goods through environmentally sound waste management systems.

Emphasis on increasing competition, exploring new market opportunities, expanding product lines, ensuring security of resource sources, and enhancing reputation within the circular economy framework. The event, titled “CE to Enhance the Export Possibilities of Plastic Goods,” aimed to address strategies for Bangladesh to export plastic products to the UK and European markets. Jane Gilbert, a circular economy expert from BSI, delivered a keynote speech, advocating for a national action plan on the circular economy and efforts to prevent, reduce, and eliminate plastic pollution.

BPGMEA President Shamim Ahmed highlighted the importance of investment and infrastructural development for waste management, emphasizing that Bangladesh is implementing a circular economy with 37% of mismanaged plastic currently being recycled. The need for adopting international standards for goods and services post-LDC (Least Developed Country) graduation in 2026 was underscored.

Experts from various organizations provided insights into economic development, trade policy, sustainable growth, capacity-building initiatives, and exports to further enhance the circular economy’s expansion.
