IMF will support Bangladesh’s development and reformation
International Monetary Fund (IMF) has reaffirmed its support for Bangladesh’s development and reform efforts, particularly under the interim government led by Dr. Muhammad Yunus. In a letter to Finance Adviser Salehuddin Ahmed, IMF’s Asia and Pacific Department Director Krishna Srinivasan expressed readiness to assist Bangladesh, highlighting ongoing collaboration on domestic revenue mobilization, expenditure rationalization, and climate change initiatives.
Bangladesh, having entered a $4.7 billion loan agreement with the IMF, is now seeking an additional $3 billion, raising the total request to $7.7 billion. Despite challenges in meeting foreign exchange reserve conditions, the IMF remains committed to continuing its partnership, with a review mission scheduled for October and the next loan tranche expected in December.
