NBR is requested to ease tax burden for struggling business
Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) has urged the National Board of Revenue (NBR) to avoid pressuring or harassing businesses for tax payments, especially those affected by recent student protests and ongoing floods.
During a meeting with the newly appointed NBR Chairman Abdur Rahman Khan, FBCCI President Md Mahbubur Rahman emphasized that tax collection should be based on actual income rather than turnover, as turnover-based taxation unfairly burdens businesses with higher taxes even when profits are low or losses are incurred. The FBCCI also raised concerns about harassment by customs officials and requested leniency in tax and VAT matters given the current economic challenges. The NBR chairman responded positively and suggested forming task forces with NBR officials and business leaders to address these issues promptly.
