BEPZA acquired land for Jashore EPZ

Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (BEPZA) has acquired 503 acres of land for the establishment of the Jashore Export Processing Zone (JEPZ). The formal handover of the land was conducted by Muhammad Abraul Hasan Mojumder, the deputy commissioner of Jashore, on March 23, as per a press release.

The decision to establish an EPZ in Jashore was made in 2019, and the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council approved the Tk 1,678.29 crore project in November of the previous year. The project proposal entails the development of 400 industrial plots aimed at attracting $2 billion in investments.

Upon full operation, the EPZ is anticipated to generate 150,000 direct and 300,000 indirect employment opportunities, contributing $2.4 billion annually to the country’s exports. Present at the handover ceremony were Mohammad Faruque Alam, Bepza’s member for engineering, and Md Yousuf Pasha, the project director of Jashore EPZ.

Previously, BEPZA had issued a Tk 266 crore cheque to the district administration to compensate landowners. Currently, BEPZA manages operations in eight export processing zones, including Chittagong EPZ, Dhaka EPZ, Mongla EPZ, Ishwardi EPZ, Comilla EPZ, Uttara EPZ, Adamjee EPZ, and Karnaphuli EPZ.
