Bangladesh continues to lead globally in green garment category, with yet another local factory receiving the prestigious Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification from the US Green Building Council (USGBC).
Among the top 100 green garment factories worldwide, 55 are situated in Bangladesh, solidifying its position as the foremost champion in this category. According to data from the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), 16 other countries collectively host 45 top green garment factories.
Following Bangladesh, Pakistan ranks second with nine LEED-certified green garment factories, followed by India with eight.
Fashion Makers Ltd, located in Gargharia Masterbari at Sreepur under Gazipur district, became the latest recipient of the green LEED certification in the platinum category, as announced by BGMEA.
This achievement brings Bangladesh’s tally of LEED green factories to 215, including 81 platinum, 120 gold, 10 silver, and 4 green certified establishments.
