Hundreds of ready-made garment workers in Narayanganj’s Bandar upazila blocked the Dhaka-Chattogram highway today, demanding due salary and festival bonus. Selim Badsha, inspector of Industrial Police-4 in Narayanganj, said the workers of Total Fashion Ltd demonstrated at Langalbandh for an hour, seeking the salary of May and Eid-ul-Azha bonus.
They left the spot following assurance from the factory authorities of paying the dues by today, he said. The workers said the authorities promised to pay the arrears earlier in the current month, but to no avail. Rezaul Karim, officer-in-charge of Kanchpur Highway Police Station, said due to the demonstration, a tailback was created from Bandar’s Malibagh area to Sonargaon’s Chaitri Garment area.
