Many Bangladesh garment factories open fair price shops for workers

On the other side of price hikes on daily commodities, several garment makers in Bangladesh have opened fair price shops to help the garment workers even if some are providing daily essentials free of cost. According to media reports, around 30 apparel-manufacturing companies including Akij Group, SQ Celsius, Epyllion Group, Cute Dress, Square Group, DBL Group, Fakir Fashion, Mohammadi Group, Northern Apparel, Ananta Group and Meghna Group and Noman Group of industries have, reportedly, been providing their respective workers daily necessities at fair price and subsidize on daily meals .

“Usually, we provide free food items to all workers before Eid, but now we are planning to give each of them a bag of essential commodities during Ramadan,” mentioned by Managing Director of Team Group Abdullah Hil Rakib even as he added all employees of Team Group have the opportunity to buy a number of commodities from the factory’s fair price shop at 7 per cent to 20 per cent lesser rates than what is charged in the market.
