Two leading Pakistani apparel manufacturers have partnered with the Good Earth cotton programme to adopt traceable materials cultivated using regenerative farming techniques, media reported.
Good Earth Cotton was pioneered by an Australian family who also created the FibreTrace traceability company, which embeds luminescent pigments in raw materials.
“Our key area of focus in developing fabrics today is sustainability and transparency. Working with Good Earth Cotton will drive us forward in this journey by providing our customers with verified, accurate, and traceable details on their cotton supply chain,” said Ali Abdullah, Diamond Denim by Sapphire’s CEO.
Both Diamond Denim by Sapphire – a vertically integrated mill owned by one of the country’s largest conglomerates – and Artistic Apparels, a native garment producer, will utilise more ‘sustainable’ cotton in their garments sourced via the Good Earth programme.
The initiative has been billed as the world’s first climate positive, traceable cotton, regenerative farming programme as it aims to deliver land restoration, enhanced soil and pasture biodiversity, water use efficiency, reduced chemicals use and additional income for farmers.
What’s more, cotton sourced via associated farmers will also be tagged using FibreTrace technology, which can be identified at any stage of the supply chain to validates its credentials.
“As a garment manufacturer, we felt the pressing need to deliver sustainable and traceable products to our customers and integrate a system of accountability and transparency within our supply chains,” said Ayesha Jan, head of department, development and innovation at Artistic Apparels.
