Agreement for $ 3 million grant from ILO signed by ERD

Economic Relations Division (ERD) of Bangladesh’s Ministry of Finance has signed a €3 million grant agreement with the International Labour Organisation (ILO) for the project “Supporting a Talent Partnership with Bangladesh.” Funded by the European Union (EU), the project will run from 2024 to 2027 in collaboration with the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment and other stakeholders.

The project aims to upskill Bangladeshi migrant workers in sectors such as health, ICT, engineering, hospitality, and agriculture to align with the labour needs of Bangladesh and select EU Member States. It will also establish safe and regular labour migration pathways to these countries.

This initiative builds on the 52-year partnership between Bangladesh and the ILO since the country’s membership in 1972, focusing on inclusive economic growth, productive employment, and decent work. The agreement was signed by Md. Shahriar Kader Siddiky of ERD and Tuomo Poutiainen of ILO, with EU and government officials witnessing the event. The project supports Bangladesh’s Five-Year Plan targets and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) related to education, decent work, and inequality reduction.
