Workers of Birds Group in Ashulia blocked the Nabinagar-Chandra highway on 30th September, protesting for unpaid wages. The demonstration began around 9:30 AM at two locations, including Baipail and Mirpur DOHS. The factory, which includes RNR Fashions Ltd., Birds Garments Ltd., Birds Fedrex Ltd., and Birds A & Z Ltd., had announced a shutdown on 28 August due to lack of work orders, citing the Russia-Ukraine war and the global economic downturn.
A meeting with the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) and other parties had previously agreed that workers would be paid their legal dues by the end of September. However, Birds Group informed that payments could not be made, sparking the protest. Police are currently working to manage the situation.
