Bangladesh receives $8 billion as climate change fund

In a pioneering effort in Asia, development partners have united to launch an $8 billion fund to assist Bangladesh in addressing the impacts of climate change. Led by the International Monetary Fund (IMF), this collaborative initiative, known as the Bangladesh Climate and Development Platform (BCDP), involves partners such as the Asian Development Bank (ADB), World Bank, International Finance Corporation (IFC), and others.

The IMF Managing Director, Kristalina Georgieva, commended Bangladesh for its proactive measures in climate resilience and emphasized the significance of international cooperation to support vulnerable nations. The partnership aligns with existing financial arrangements and ongoing climate projects in Bangladesh.
