BGMEA urged ‘Kontoor’ brands to source more value added RMG from Bangladesh

Faruque Hassan, the President of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), recently urged Kontoor Brands, a prominent clothing company, to expand its garment sourcing from Bangladesh, with a specific focus on high-value and non-cotton items.

Highlighting significant advancements in workplace safety, environmental sustainability, and the well-being of workers in the garment industry, he underscored Bangladesh’s status as a preferred destination for garment sourcing. This appeal was made during a meeting with senior executives from Kontoor Brands, a globally recognized apparel company known for its enduring relationships with Bangladeshi suppliers.

Kontoor Brands is the owner of two renowned denim labels, Lee and Wrangler.

The meeting, held in Dhaka, featured key representatives from Kontoor Brands, including Ezio Garciamendez, Vice President and Chief Supply Chain Officer; Wesley Gibson, Vice President and Managing Director of Sourcing; Heena Agrawal, Vice President of Finance; and Gihan Palihena, Director of Asia Product Supply – South Asia. The discussions centered on topics of mutual interest, with a specific focus on strengthening the partnership between Kontoor Brands and the Bangladeshi garment industry.
