BGMEA urged RMG workers to resume to get the increased salary from December, 2023

Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has called on workers to return to their workplaces, emphasizing that the new wage structure will be implemented from December 1. BGMEA warned that factory owners could potentially close units under Section 13(1) of labor law if workers do not resume work.
Additionally, BGMEA urged workers to avoid activities that might discourage international clothing retailers and brands from continuing operations in Bangladesh. BGMEA President Mr. Faruque Hassan expressed disappointment over ongoing demonstrations and vandalism despite the announcement of the new wage structure, which sets the minimum salary at Tk 12,500, slightly over half of workers’ demands. Union leaders have rejected the new minimum wage and threatened further demonstrations if it is not raised to Tk 25,000.
