BGMEA urges Customs department to address all the problems related to RMG exports

The President of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), SM Mannan (Kochi), emphasized the urgent need to simplify customs procedures and remove hassles in services to facilitate smoother operations for the readymade garments (RMG) sector. In a meeting with the commissioner of Custom House, Chattogram, he highlighted how customs-related challenges are impacting export-import activities, increasing production costs, and causing delays, especially amidst the current global economic slowdown.

Mannan stressed the importance of reducing lead times to enhance competitiveness in the global fashion market and condemned money laundering under the guise of exports. He called for exemplary punishment for those obstructing exports and damaging the country’s economy. The BGMEA delegation urged customs authorities to promptly address these issues and streamline services for the RMG sector to improve efficiency. In response, the customs commissioner acknowledged the RMG industry’s significant contributions and assured cooperation to address concerns and facilitate a conducive environment for industry growth. The meeting was attended by various BGMEA officials, representatives from the C&F Association, garment factory owners, and high officials from Customs House Chattogram.
