Both North and South Dhaka city corporation revealed their future plan for green Dhaka

Dhaka North and South City Corporations have revealed their inaugural climate action plan, aiming for Dhaka to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. The plan, in line with Bangladesh’s national commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, includes targets for electrifying public transportation and transitioning private vehicles to electric by 2050. By 2030, 80% of public transportation will be electric, rising to 100% by 2040, while 10% of private vehicles will go electric by 2030, reaching 50% by 2040. Communication experts suggest upgrading road infrastructure and training technicians to support electric vehicle adoption. Prof M Hadiuzzaman from Buet emphasizes the need for a comprehensive electric vehicle roadmap, focusing on modernizing infrastructure and establishing charging stations.

The plan also aims for significant reductions in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030, 2040, and 2050, with a final target of 70.6% reduction by 2050. Additionally, efforts are underway to clear and restore all canals in Dhaka by 2050.
