Business friendly environment is a must in order to sustain: FBCCI
FBCCI President Mahbubul Alam emphasized the urgent need for Bangladesh to bolster its business-friendly environment in light of challenges stemming from the Covid-19 pandemic, the Russia-Ukraine conflict, the Middle East crisis, and the impending economic graduation of the nation. He highlighted the importance of incorporating recommendations from various chambers and associations into the next budget proposal to address these issues effectively.
Speaking at a discussion on the preparation of recommendations for the upcoming national budget at the FBCCI office in Dhaka, Alam acknowledged that although Bangladesh has a solid foundation, it is not immune to the global economic challenges faced by other countries.
The apex trade body convened meetings with different chambers and associations to formulate recommendations concerning import duties, income tax, and other taxes. Alam stated that proposals would include measures to reduce production and transportation costs to enhance competitiveness in the global market, ensure investment protection, improve port efficiency, and eliminate obstacles to enhance transparency in tax collection.
Md Amin Helali, Senior Vice President of FBCCI, emphasized that the opinions and recommendations of businessmen would be integral to shaping the budget proposal. The event was attended by Mohammad Ali, former First Vice President of FBCCI, Md. Monir Hossain, Vice President, along with directors and heads of various chambers and associations.
