Deshbandhu Group is to establish the largest polyester project in Bangladesh in cooperation with Chinese counterpart
As part of its diversification strategy, Deshbandhu Group aims to establish the largest polyester project in Bangladesh to boost investment in the polyester sector. The project involves the setup of a 1,600 TPD continuous polymerization (CP) unit along with a downstream unit comprising 1,200 TPD bottle grade chips and 400 TPD textile-grade chips.
To realize this initiative, Deshbandhu Group recently signed contracts for PSF and PET industries with China National Chemical Engineering International Co Ltd and Chemtex (China) Engg Co Ltd. The proposed site spans 33 acres of land at Powerpack Economic Zone in Mongla, Bagerhat. At the signing ceremony, attended by Senior Secretary and Beza Executive Chairman Sheikh Yusuf Harun as the chief guest, agreements were formalized. Notable attendees included executives from Deshbandhu Group, CNCEC, Chemtex, and PowerPac, as well as officials from BEZA. Given the increasing demand for textiles and polyester in the region, the establishment of continuous polymerization and downstream processing units becomes imperative.
The produced polyester chips will serve as raw material for downstream industries, including handloom, knitting, wet processing, and garments, making it a significant industry in Bangladesh and beyond. In response to the substantial demand for textiles and garments in Bangladesh and neighboring countries, the polyester project encompasses a CP unit, chips manufacturing unit, and associated downstream units.
