Energy crisis: Govt fixes different weekly holidays for industrial zones

The government on Thursday fixed different weekly holidays in industrial zones across the country to ensure an uninterrupted power supply.

Department of Inspection for Factories and Establishments (DIFE) under the Ministry of Labour and Employment issued a circular in this regard.

Under section 114(2) of the Bangladesh Labour Act, 2006, different weekly closing day has been fixed in the public interest, said DIFE.

Earlier on Sunday, State Minister for Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid said that the government has decided to close the factories in each area on an alternate day of the week to solve the electricity problem.

The process is expected to save 490MW of electricity, he said after an exchange meeting with businessmen at Biddyut Bhaban in the capital.

The state minister said: “Uninterrupted power supply will be possible from October. Then hopefully, there will be no more load shedding.”
