National Single Window (NSW) will be opened in March to reduce procedural delay
National Board of Revenue plans to launch the National Single Window (NSW) in March next year to streamline business operations and reduce procedural delays, announced NBR Chairman Md Abdur Rahman Khan at a dialogue on “Tax Reform in Bangladesh: Opportunities and Priorities.” The event was organized by Policy Exchange of Bangladesh and SMAC Advisory Services at The Westin in Dhaka.
Through the NSW, NBR will provide 110 certifications and permissions across 19 authorities, aiming to enhance efficiency and ease of doing business. During the dialogue, exporters, industry leaders, bankers, and tax experts discussed various tax reform priorities. Snehasish Barua, managing director of SMAC Advisory Services, delivered the keynote, and Masrur Reaz, founder of Policy Exchange of Bangladesh, moderated.
Khan suggested the interim government might reduce subsidies to increase revenue and revealed that a master plan for full automation of NBR services is underway. Industry leaders shared their views on taxation, with Alihussain Akberali of Bangladesh Steel Re-Rolling Mills advocating for a fixed 10% VAT rate and greater foreign direct investment to create jobs.
Shams Mahmud highlighted opportunities in circular fashion, suggesting better use of fabric scraps could save $9 billion in imports. Other speakers, including Mir Nasir Hossain and Mohammad Iqbal Chowdhury, emphasized fiscal policy reform and faster service delivery from the NBR.
