Over these three days blockade, 1500 tons of goods piled up at Dhaka International Airport
Nearly 1,500 tons of cargo have accumulated at Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) over the past three days due to a strike by clearing and forwarding (C&F) agents. This includes approximately 800 tons of imported goods and 700 tons of export items, mainly garments. The strike was in response to the new express delivery service rules, effective from June 6, which C&F agents claim are costing them business. These rules mandate that any consignment under 30 kg be delivered by express services, reducing delivery time to one day from the usual seven days to two weeks.
However, C&F agents have threatened to resume the strike if changes are not agreed upon by Sunday. The situation has caused significant disruption for the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) and international retailers relying on timely shipments.
