Three new factories got LEED certified

Bangladesh has cemented its status as a global leader in environmentally friendly apparel manufacturing, with 61 of the world’s top 100 LEED-certified factories, including nine of the top 10 and 18 of the top 20. Recently, three more ready-made garment (RMG) factories in the country received LEED certification from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), bringing the total to 226 certified factories. Among them, 91 are platinum-rated, 124 gold-rated, 10 silver-rated, and four certified.

In August, Unitex Spinning Ltd Unit-2 in Chittagong, Sepal Garments Ltd in Gazipur, and Ananta Huaxiang Limited in Narayanganj obtained platinum and gold certificates, further boosting Bangladesh’s reputation for sustainability. The country is home to the highest and second-highest scoring green factories globally, attracting investment and partnerships.

This achievement is a testament to Bangladesh’s garment industry’s commitment to environmental sustainability, a move that has helped restore its image following the Rana Plaza tragedy in 2013. The transition to green factories not only reduces operational costs but also provides a safer working environment. Another 550 factories are awaiting LEED certification.
