Universal Menswear Ltd and Pacific Blue (Jeans Wear) Ltd got gold LEED certification

Recently, two additional readymade garment (RMG) factories in Bangladesh achieved gold certification from the US Green Building Council. This achievement brings the total number of LEED-certified factories in the country to 202. Among them, 73 have received platinum ratings, 115 have achieved gold ratings, and 10 have been rated silver.

Universal Menswear Ltd, a company based in Adamjee EPZ with Bangladesh-UK ties, and Pacific Blue (Jeans Wear) Ltd in Savar, which is affiliated with the Al Muslim Group, both attained gold ratings.

In a statement, Mr. Faruque Hassan, President of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association, highlighted that Bangladesh recorded the highest number of LEED-certified factories in a single year in 2022. During that year, a total of 30 factories obtained LEED certification, with 15 achieving platinum status and 15 securing gold ratings.

In the first eight months this year, another 20 factories have earned this recognition, with 13 achieving the platinum rating and seven attaining the gold rating. Five hundred more factories are in the queue to get the certification, he said according to local media reports.
