Urged to continue orders from Bangladesh

Global rights groups recently urged international fashion brands to maintain their long-term commitment to Bangladesh, especially during the country’s current political and economic challenges. UNI Global Union and IndustriALL, in a joint letter to 200 brands part of the International Accord, emphasized the importance of continued engagement to ensure workers receive their regular salaries for July and August and to keep sourcing from Bangladesh.

The garment sector, vital to Bangladesh’s economy, has helped lift millions out of poverty through improved worker safety. The unions stressed that the industry’s stability is crucial for the country as it seeks to restore order and build a new democracy.

Earlier, Fair Wear Foundation (FWF) and Ethical Trading Initiative (ETI) called on both buyers and suppliers to discuss the impacts of the transition, including factory closures and unrest. They recommended extending production timelines, managing delays without penalties, ensuring timely payments, and following legal procedures, particularly concerning wages and temporary closures.
