10-year tax benefits on renewable energy investments

National Board of Revenue in Bangladesh has introduced a 10-year tax incentive for renewable energy investments to promote clean energy production. Investors launching renewable energy plants between July 1, 2025, and June 30, 2030, will receive a full tax exemption for the first five years of operation.

In the subsequent three years, only half of their income will be taxed, followed by a 25% tax rate for the next two years. This initiative, requested by the Power Division, marks the NBR’s first tax benefit solely for renewable energy projects, aiming to encourage private investment and reduce dependency on fossil fuels. The NBR previously extended tax breaks for non-coal power plants, but in August, the government canceled 42 planned power projects, including 37 renewables with a capacity of 3,102 MW.
