$ 110 billion export target by 2027

The interim government’s advisory council approved the draft of the 2024-27 export policy, targeting $110 billion in export revenue by 2027. This policy aims to create employment, balance trade, and boost Bangladesh’s global market position. It emphasizes export growth, specifically in emerging sectors like vegetables, handicrafts, and the service industry, with a focus on engaging women and small entrepreneurs.

The policy introduces alternatives to financial incentives for exporters in compliance with WTO rules and supports sectors like pharmaceuticals, medical equipment, and textiles (spinning, fabric manufacturing). It also updates the “Export Prohibited List” and “Conditional Export List,” and details the roles of various committees overseeing export performance.

Additionally, the government gave final approval to the “Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (Amendment) Ordinance 2024,” which enhances administrative oversight of Wasa, the body responsible for water and sewage management in cities like Dhaka and Chattogram. The ordinance grants the government authority to appoint or remove Wasa officials and dissolve its board when necessary, ensuring better service delivery and public interest management. These steps align with the government’s broader agenda for economic growth and infrastructure improvement.
