Trousers & shorts accounts 26.52% of US apparel import in Jan-June'22

Trousers & shorts was on top on the list of US imported apparel items with a share of 26.52% in the first half (January-July) of 2022.

During the mentioned period, the United States imported apparel items worth $48.176 billion.

The top three items like trousers & shorts, jerseys and T-shirts together accounted for over 50% of the total apparel import during the same period, according to data of TexPro.

The US had imported trousers & shorts worth $12.777 billion in the first six months of this year.

The import of trousers & shorts has registered constant increase since 2020 when it saw a dip due to COVID-19.

The import rose 37.31% during the period under review over the same period of the previous year, TexPro data added.

Jerseys constituted the second largest apparel product with import of $7.533 billion or 15.64% of the total import.

Jerseys import surged 37.08% in January-June 2022 over the corresponding period of last year.

As per TexPro, the import of T-shirts by the US was recorded at $4.658 billion, 9.67%, during the first half of current year.

The import of top three items totalled 51.83% of total apparel import in first half of this year.

During January-June 2022, other major items of the US apparel imports were shirts (8.90%), innerwear (8.45%), dresses (6.54%) baby wear (2.86%), socks (2.63%), and accessories (2.46%).
