Bangladesh government to award 29 green factories across 12 sectors

Today, the government will honor 29 companies across 12 sectors with the “Green Factory Award-2023” for their contributions to productivity enhancement through skilled workforce utilization and eco-friendly technology adoption in safe environments. Sectors include woven, knitwear, leather, tea, cement, pharmaceuticals, tiles and ceramic, electric and electronics goods manufacturing, plastic, food processing, and textile industries.

Ministry of Labour and Employment will host the event at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in Dhaka. State Minister Nazrul Islam Chowdhury announced the ceremony, with Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury slated to present awards consisting of Tk 1 lakh, a medal, a memento, and a certificate to each winner. This event aligns with the International Labour Organization’s “World Day for Safety and Health at Work” observed annually on April 28th.

Bangladesh has been recognizing factories’ efforts in worker health protection and environmental preservation following ILO guidelines. The country boasts the highest number of “green” garment factories, with 215 certified by the United States Green Building Council (USGBC). These efforts align with global trends toward environmental conservation and supply chain sustainability.
