The longest heat-wave in this century

Bangladesh is currently experiencing its longest heat-wave in recorded history, lasting 26 consecutive days since early April. This heat-wave has impacted over 75% of the country, affecting more than 50 districts, surpassing previous records in both duration and geographical coverage. Meteorologists attribute the intensifying heat-waves to global warming and climate change, warning of increased duration and disruption in the future. There is no nationwide rain forecasted until at least May 3rd, with the ongoing heat-wave expected to persist until then.

Record-breaking temperatures are anticipated on April 29th or 30th, particularly affecting districts like Chuadanga, Meherpur, Jashore, Pabna, Rajshahi, and Chapainawabganj. Weather experts express concerns about heatstroke fatalities, particularly among children and adolescents if schools reopen before May 2nd. While some relief may come after May 3rd due to a low-pressure system bringing rain, significant relief from the heat is not expected.
