Business persons got awarded for their contribution to the economy of Bangladesh
Business persons, industrialists, and entrepreneurs who’ve driven Bangladesh’s progress have often gone unnoticed. Over two decades ago, The Daily Star, in collaboration with DHL Express, initiated the Bangladesh Business Awards to honor these trailblazers.
Since 2000, the awards have consistently recognized firms, financial institutions, business icons, and women entrepreneurs for their pioneering contributions to the nation’s economic growth and employment opportunities.
Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi graced the event as the chief guest. The evening commenced with the unveiling of the theme, “Vision to Action.” Discussions during the event covered the significance of a robust logistics sector and challenges facing the economy, including corporate governance issues, rising default loans in the banking sector, and unethical business practices.
Notable awardees at the 21st ceremony included Brac Bank Ltd, awarded Best Financial Institution of the Year; Mosammat Shirajum Munira, founder of Sutar Kabbo, received the Outstanding Women in Business of the Year award; Engineer AKM Mosharraf Hussain, managing director of Standard Group, was honored as the Business Person of the Year; and Syed Manzur Elahi received the Lifetime Achievement Award, acknowledging his significant contributions to the industrial landscape of Bangladesh.
