Cotton ‘Made in Africa’ Celebrates World’s Top Natural Textile Fiber

Cotton made in Africa (CmiA) initiative, under the Aid by Trade Foundation (AbTF), participated in the World Cotton Day Conference in Cotonou, Benin, advocating for sustainable cotton production and improved livelihoods for nearly one million African small-scale cotton farmers.

CmiA represents 30% of African cotton, focusing on environmental sustainability and better living standards. World Cotton Day event, held annually on October 7, celebrates cotton’s role in sustainable development, particularly in the Global South. This year’s event included discussions on women’s empowerment in the cotton industry, with small-scale CmiA Organic cotton farmer Bagoudou Bougnon Koto joining a panel to share insights on gender equality and empowerment in cotton farming.
