Interim government plans to introduce pension scheme for RMG workers

Labor and Employment Adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan announced plans to introduce a pension scheme for readymade garment workers in Bangladesh, aiming to ensure their financial security after retirement. He shared this during the launch of a Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) sales program offering essentials at reasonable prices at a garment factory in Tongi.

Asif expressed his vision to establish the pension scheme under the Social Safety Program, with the support of all stakeholders. He also acknowledged the vital role of workers in the country’s recent mass movements, emphasizing their right to benefit from the nation’s freedom.

The adviser mentioned that unrest in the RMG sector was resolved through an 18-point joint statement from owners and workers, leading to the start of TCB’s affordable product sales, which will expand further. Several high-level officials, including the Labor and Employment Secretary and BGMEA President, were present at the event.
