Malaysia sets to raise minimum wage at RM 1,700 from Feb, 2025
Malaysia will raise its minimum wage from RM 1,500 to RM 1,700, starting February 1, 2025, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim announced while presenting the 2025 budget. Small employers with fewer than five workers will receive a six-month deferment until August 1, 2025. The Human Resources Ministry will also release guidelines for starting salaries, including RM 2,290 for industrial technicians, RM 3,380 for mechanical engineers, and RM 2,985 for creative content designers.
Anwar also highlighted the full implementation of the Progressive Wage Policy next year, with a RM 200 million budget benefiting 50,000 workers. Additionally, RM 250 million will be allocated to the People’s Income Initiative (IPR) to combat extreme poverty, aiming to enhance the incomes of the most vulnerable.
In collaboration with Bank Negara and the insurance industry, the Skim Perlindungan Tenang initiative will continue, offering two million recipients vouchers worth RM30 to help cover insurance for death, personal accidents, and risks like fire and floods.
