New Gas structure found in Sylhet gas field

A significant discovery of a new gas structure at well No-10 in the Sylhet Gas field has been announced, with an anticipated production of approximately 18 million cubic feet of gas per day (MMCFD). State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Mr. Nasrul Hamid revealed the finding, indicating that the gas, located at a depth of about 3,400 meters in the high-pressure zone, is expected to be brought to Dhaka within 7 months.

This discovery is part of an ongoing initiative to increase gas production by 600 MMCFD by 2025 through the drilling of 46 wells. The minister stated that in the last eight months, 100 MMCFD of gas has been found from various wells, and it is hoped that around 500 MMCFD will be available by the fiscal year 2024-25. Mr. Nasrul highlighted additional gas findings in Bhola, Beanibazar, Sylhet, and Koilash Tila gas fields, with specific details about the 70 MMCFD gas from Koilashtila field. The new gas discovery is expected to play a crucial role in meeting local demand, as the country currently produces about 2577.2 MMCFD, imports 500 MMCFD, and has a demand for 4000 MMCFD.
