Payra power plant may face shutdown; the worry of severe load shedding

Patuakhali’s Payra 1,320 MW thermal power plant is being re-opened as coal comes in, a 40,000 ton coal ship arrived at the jetty of the power plant yesterday morning. The power plant authorities said that the coal discharge from the ship is in progress. As a result, the power plant can be commissioned anytime tomorrow.

Bangladesh-China Power Company Limited (BCPCL), the managing director of the power plant, Engineer AM Khorshedul Alam, confirmed this information to media. He said, Payra power plant will be commissioned on June 25. A 40 thousand ton coal ship has arrived at the jetty of the thermal power plant. A total of eight lakh tonnes of coal LCs have been opened. Hopefully, more LCs can be opened soon.
