Despite the Russia-Ukraine war and the weak global financial situation, the country generated a record export earnings of $ 55,560 million in the fiscal year 2022-23. The highest export income in the country’s history was achieved last year, mainly based on garment exports, which is 6.67 percent higher than the previous year (2021-22). Apparel exports have increased significantly in the outgoing financial year. At this time, the income of clothing exports stood at 46,991 million. Earlier, in the financial year 2021-22, the income of garment export was 42,613 million dollars. The target of net product (sweaters, t-shirts) export earnings was 25,600 million dollars during the period.
However, overall export earnings are lagging slightly behind the target set for the fiscal year 2022-23. At that time the target of export income was 58 billion dollars.
Exports of plastic products have increased among the major export products other than apparel. The growth in this area is 26.23 %. Plastic products worth 298 million dollars have been exported. However, during this period, the export earnings of leather and leather products, fish, agricultural products, jute and jute products and chemical products have decreased.
