RMG worker’s 18-point demand accepted for smooth operation of factories

The acceptance of garment workers’ 18-point demand by the government and factory owners is a positive step that may help end the ongoing unrest and vandalism in Bangladesh’s garment industry. The disruptions have led to orders being diverted to competing countries, causing financial strain on the industry. Upcoming elections, expected in 18 months, could further deter new orders due to potential political violence.

The unrest has also affected investments, delaying or canceling plans related to double-stage transformation and carbon reduction strategies. Many factories are now financially strained, and consolidation, along with factory closures, is anticipated due to current monetary policies.

There is hope that all factories will resume operations, allowing the industry to recover and move forward.
