RMG workers protested for arrear

Employees from two ready-made garment factories in Fatuallah, Narayanganj, staged demonstrations today to protest the closure of the factories without receiving their salaries. A sizable number of workers from Abanti Colour Tex Limited, an export-oriented facility under the Crony Group in the BSCIC area of Fatullah, held demonstrations on the factory premises for two hours in the morning, causing significant traffic congestion on the Dhaka-Munshiganj regional road.
Following assurances that the factory would reopen and salaries would be disbursed on Monday, the workers concluded their demonstration, as confirmed by Ganesh Gopal Biswas, senior assistant superintendent of Industrial Police-4. The factory, owned by AH Aslam Sunny, employs approximately 7,000 workers, although attempts to reach him for comments were unsuccessful. Workers expressed discontent over the non-payment of their salaries for December and January, citing financial hardships. Lipi Begum, an employee, lamented the sudden closure, which left workers unable to meet their basic needs and financial obligations.
Similarly, more than a hundred workers from Rupashi Group of Industries Ltd protested outside the Narayanganj Press Club in the morning, citing similar grievances. According to Kabir Hossain Raju, president of the district committee of the United Federation of Garments Workers, the factory in Fatullah’s Kutubpur area shut down in November last year without paying salaries to around 700 workers for three months.
