Shah Fatehullah group received World’s first LEED certified spinning factory

Bangladesh has recently added another feather to its cap with Shah Fatehullah Group’s spinning factory attaining LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Platinum certification from the US Green Building Council (USGBC) yesterday, bringing the nation’s count to 207th green garment factories.

As a frontrunner in sustainable construction, Bangladesh boasts 77 platinum, 116 gold, 10 silver, and four certified green garment factories, according to data provided by the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA).

Bangladesh stands out globally, with 54 of the top 100 LEED green factories worldwide located within its borders. Impressively, nine out of the top 10 and 18 out of the top 20 LEED-certified factories are situated here, with a Bangladeshi facility scoring 104, the highest globally.

Mr. Ahnaf Shah, director of Shah Fatehullah Group, remarked, “The world’s first and only LEED Platinum certified spinning factory underscores our dedication to environmental stewardship and establishes a global benchmark for responsible textile manufacturing.”

The USGBC evaluates factories based on various criteria including performance in transformation, energy efficiency, water conservation, and waste management. The top performers earn platinum status, followed by gold and silver certifications.
