The government has declared the lifespan of commercial vehicles

The government has determined the economic life of passenger buses and goods vehicles. The Road Transport and Highways Department issued a notification in this regard yesterday. At the same time, the draft of ‘Motor Vehicle Scrap Policy, 2023’ has also been released. This decision has been taken with the aim of reducing the accident rate, ensuring road safety, reducing environmental pollution and bringing order to the road.
The notification issued by the Highways Department said, “With the powers provided in Section 36 of the Road Transport Act, 2018, the government has fixed the economic life of 20 years for buses and minibuses and
25 years for goods vehicles such as trucks, covered vans, etc. This order issued in public interest will be effective immediately.
Meanwhile, the motor vehicle is asked to be scrapped after the end of its economic life. In case of violation of the policy, action has been taken as per Section 104 of the Road Transport Act, 2018. Violation of this section is punishable with imprisonment of three months or a fine of Tk 20,000 or both.
