Time for Bangladesh to broaden its range of exports to the United Kingdom
The Bangladeshi High Commissioner to the UK, Ms. Saida Muna Tasneem, has urged Bangladesh to assess the current high-demand products in the United Kingdom and diversify its export portfolio to enhance shipments to the UK. Emphasizing the significance of implementing the ‘China Plus One’ policy, she encouraged exploring opportunities and exporting a variety of products, including fruits like pineapples and various agricultural goods. In a meeting with Mr. Mahbubul Alam, President of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI), Ms. Tasneem discussed the need to identify and export products beyond the predominant garment items.
Last year, Bangladesh exported goods worth over $5.5 billion to the UK, with approximately 91 % comprising garment items. The FBCCI president and his delegation engaged in a dialogue on diversifying export goods and discussed the possibility of exporting skilled manpower to the UK.
