Business leaders were silenced due to fear of harassment
At an event organized by the Bangladesh Garments Accessories and Packaging Manufacturers and Exporters Association, industry leaders called for the resignation of the NBR chairman and a postponement of Bangladesh’s scheduled LDC graduation in 2026 due to errors in economic data.
They expressed concerns about government harassment, which they believe stifles business operations, and urged for reforms in customs, bonds, and the NBR. Calls were made for a coordinated committee to address industry challenges, early elections to restore democratic governance, and measures to support businesses during the current crisis, including deferring utility bill payments and reducing lending rates. They also highlighted the need to delay the LDC graduation and address specific issues to avoid scrutiny from the EU.
