‘Advancing Decent Work in Bangladesh’ a project launched by ILO and GoB

“Advancing Decent Work in Bangladesh” project was launched by the International Labour Organisation (ILO) and the Government of Bangladesh (GoB), with funding from the European Union, Denmark, the Netherlands, and Sweden under the Team Europe Initiative. The project will provide $24.7 million over four years to support labor sector reforms. These reforms aim to help Bangladesh transition smoothly from the Least Developed Country (LDC) status by 2026, promoting sustainable businesses, strong governance, and labor rights.

Md. Nazrul Islam Chowdhury, State Minister, emphasized the commitment to social justice and labor reforms. Tuomo Poutiainen, ILO Country Director, stressed the importance of tripartism for a smooth transition. Team Europe representatives expressed their support for the initiative, highlighting its potential to create positive change in labor conditions and drive sustainable economic growth in Bangladesh.
