Big fund on climate change is stuck in Bank
BTJ Desk Report
Concerns have been raised as a climate fund worth Tk 536 crore remains frozen in a bank, which was previously known as Farmers Bank and is now called Padma Bank Limited. The parliamentary standing committee on the Environment, Forest and Climate Change Ministry has expressed its deep concern and called for the necessary steps to recover the funds. The Bangladesh Climate Change Trust had expected to receive this amount, along with accumulated interest, in 2016. However, it has only received Tk 74 crore over nearly seven years, causing the total due, including interest, to now amount to approximately Tk 827 crore.
