Global apparel brand’s representatives meet Lutfey Siddiqi for dialogue

Chief Advisor’s Special Envoy Lutfey Siddiqi hosted a dialogue with representatives of global apparel brands and buyers, expressing gratitude for their constructive contributions amid challenges in Bangladesh’s RMG sector. Mr. Siddiqi highlighted positive trends in export volumes, remittances, and cargo handling, which have shown robust growth, while noting improvements in law and order, labour relations, and liquidity. However, he acknowledged persistent structural challenges, such as port and energy infrastructure and skill gaps, emphasizing the need for expedited reforms.

Buyers appreciated the opportunity to engage with the government at a ministerial level for the first time. They raised concerns about weak brand protection, restrictive credit facilities for imports, and the absence of a dedicated green energy plan. They pledged support for labour standards and committed to projecting Bangladesh’s evolving narrative internationally.

Representatives from H&M and Inditex also participated, with Mr. Siddiqi thanking the buyers for countering misinformation about the country.
