Industrial workers of Bangladesh will get their salary and bonuses by 21st March: Labor ministry

Tripartite Consultative Council (TCC) has decided that all industrial workers in Bangladesh will receive their outstanding salaries and bonuses by 21st March or the 20th of Ramadan. Additionally, factory authorities, based on their capacity, will provide workers with at least 15 days’ salary for March.

The decision was made during the TCC’s 85th meeting on 12th March at the ministry headquarters in Bijoynagar. The meeting, attended by representatives of the government, factory owners, and labor groups, reviewed labor conditions ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr, including salary payments, bonuses, and worker leave, according to a statement from the Ministry of Labor and Employment.

The TCC outlined seven key decisions, including a restriction on terminating or laying off workers before Eid. It was also decided that Eid holidays will be determined through discussions between factory authorities and labor representatives. Furthermore, the Finance Division, the Ministry of Finance, and Bangladesh Bank will be urged to take necessary steps to settle outstanding dues, including cash incentives owed to factory owners, particularly members of BGMEA and BKMEA.

To facilitate wage payments, banks in labor-intensive areas will remain open on 28-29 March. Additionally, a central monitoring cell, including representatives from all stakeholder groups, will be formed to oversee the situation.
