Major apparel-importing nations, including the EU, are making sustainable energy mandatory for production, pushing Bangladesh’s RMG sector to adopt renewable energy to stay competitive.
At a ‘Swisscontact’ Bangladesh event in Dhaka, experts highlighted the urgent need for an energy transition. The “InSPIRE” project, backed by the Embassy of Sweden, was launched to promote investment in resource efficiency.
Swedish officials emphasized that compliance with Europe’s strict environmental regulations is crucial for Bangladesh’s RMG sector. They stressed that private sector investment, alongside risk reduction strategies, is essential for financing the green transition. Additionally, cutting energy consumption by 10-20% could significantly boost sustainability and cost savings.
