29 green factories got awarded from Bangladesh Government
Government of Bangladesh recognized 29 companies from 12 different sectors with the prestigious “Green Factory Award-2023” for their contributions to productivity enhancement through the utilization of skilled workforce and eco-friendly technology in safe working environments.
Sectors including woven, knitwear, leather, tea, cement, pharmaceuticals, tiles and ceramics, electric and electronics manufacturing, plastics, food processing, and textiles were represented among the honored companies.
The awards were presented to factory representatives during a program commemorating the “National Occupational Health and Safety Day 2024,” with Speaker of Parliament Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury presenting each winner with Tk 1 lakh, a medal, a memento, and a certificate.
The event was organized by the Department of Inspection for Factories and Establishments under the labor ministry at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in the capital. This celebration aligns with the International Labour Organization’s observance of the “World Day for Safety and Health at Work” on April 28th, promoting global efforts to prevent occupational accidents and diseases. Bangladesh’s commitment to worker health and environmental protection is further demonstrated by its leading position in green garment factories, with 215 certified establishments, including 80 platinum-rated, 120 gold-rated, 10 silver-rated, and 4 green-rated facilities, according to data from the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association. Additionally, Bangladesh hosts 55 of the world’s top 100 green buildings, showcasing its dedication to sustainability and environmental stewardship.
