Bangladesh urged to Belgium-Luxemburg for tariff-free access till 2032

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina recently appealed to Belgium and Luxembourg for the extension of tariff- and quota-free access to Bangladeshi goods in their markets until 2032. She conveyed this request during her bilateral meetings with Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo and Luxembourg Prime Minister Xavier Bettel during her visit to Europe.

Quoting Prime Minister Hasina, Bangladesh’s Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen stated, “We urge the continuation of the EBA (Everything but Arms) facility until 2032, rather than the previously planned 2029, as this extended support should be seen as a reward rather than a punishment.”

In addition, Prime Minister Hasina also encouraged Belgium to consider increased investment in Bangladesh, particularly in the fields of pharmaceuticals, renewable energy, and shipbuilding, as reported by a news agency. During her discussions, Prime Minister Hasina specifically requested Luxembourg’s assistance in advancing her country’s banking sector towards maturity.

Furthermore, Bangladesh and Luxembourg are on the verge of signing an air service agreement to bolster bilateral trade and business, as informed by Minister Momen.
